Lake Eola Holiday Train 2026: A Free Christmas Train Night in Downtown Orlando with Kids

Orlando

Looking for a holiday train night that won't cost you anything? The Holiday Train at Lake Eola Park is a free, easy outing in downtown Orlando, and it's surrounded by enough holiday magic to fill a whole evening.

What is the Lake Eola Holiday Train?

The Holiday Train is part of Downtown for the Holidays, downtown Orlando's month of free December events. The train runs on the Northeast Lawn of Lake Eola Park on weekend evenings during the first three weekends of December.

The train is only one stop. On the same nights, the park also has:

  • Eola Wonderland Christmas Tree Show: the city's six-story tree with 88,000 animated lights puts on a synchronized light and music show nightly at 5:45, 6:45, 7:45, 8:45 and 9:45 PM, December 4 through January 6.
  • Snowfall on Washington Street by the Lake Eola House, for 15 minutes at a time on weekend evenings, starting at 6:00 PM and repeating every half hour through 9:00 PM. Check the official Downtown for the Holidays page for the exact snowfall nights.
  • Santa at the Eola House (512 E. Washington St.), 5:30–9:00 PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, December 5–20, plus Thursday, December 17, Monday, December 21 and Tuesday, December 22.
  • The Grinch's Lair for photos with the Grinch, on the same nights.
  • The Merry Market of local vendors on the east side of the park, 5:30–9:30 PM.
  • Free family movies on the East Lawn at 7 PM: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Dec 5), Elf (Dec 12) and A Christmas Story (Dec 19).

Dates, times and location

The Holiday Train runs from 5:30 to 9:00 PM on these evenings:

  • Friday–Sunday, December 4, 5, 6
  • Friday–Sunday, December 11, 12, 13
  • Friday–Sunday, December 18, 19, 20

Where: Lake Eola Park, Northeast Lawn, near the intersection of Robinson Street and Eola Drive, Orlando, FL 32801. The park's main address is 195 N. Rosalind Ave.

Opening night is big. Friday, December 4 is also the City of Orlando's Tree Lighting Celebration, with music at the amphitheater from 5:30 PM, a main stage show at 7 PM leading up to the tree lighting, food trucks, snowfall, the Merry Market and photos with Santa. Expect crowds that night, and plenty of excitement.

Cost

Free. The city lists the Holiday Train as free, and Downtown for the Holidays events are free to attend. Food, market shopping and parking are on you.

Sensory-friendly night: Sunday, December 13

If loud crowds are hard for your little one, mark Sunday, December 13, 5:30–9:30 PM. Downtown for the Holidays hosts a sensory night with no or low music, a quiet place with water and snacks, fidget tools, noise-canceling headphones, and calmer line systems for Santa and the Grinch. Lake Eola Holiday Train nights fall on Sundays, so the train should be running that night too. Check the official site to confirm.

Tips for going with toddlers and little kids

Plan your parking (or skip it). The city encourages SunRail, rideshare, bike share, carpooling, or the free downtown LYMMO circulator for holiday events. There's an interactive map of downtown garages and surface lots on the city and Downtown Orlando websites. Downtown parking on a busy December night can take a while, so leave extra time.

Know how the Santa and Grinch lines work. Visits are first-come, first-served with a virtual queue. You have to be on site to scan a QR code and join, and the queue can close before 9 PM once it's full. If meeting Santa is the main goal, it's generally smart to get there early in the evening.

Build your night around the timing. Shows and snowfall repeat all evening, so you don't have to see everything. For a toddler, an early plan might look like this: arrive around 5:30, ride the train, catch the 5:45 or 6:45 tree show and a 6:00 or 6:30 snowfall, then head home.

Bring a stroller and a layer. Lake Eola is a big walking loop, and Florida December evenings can turn cool. A stroller or wagon makes the walk between the train, tree and Eola House easier on little legs.

Pack headphones if your kid needs them. Live music and crowds can get loud even on regular nights.
